MODEL U.N. TRAVELS TO EUROPE

Old Dominion University's Model United Nations Society participated in two conferences overseas earlier this month.

Five students attended the annual European International Model U.N. in The Hague, Netherlands, from July 4-10. Four of the five acted as representatives of the Republic of France during the simulated diplomatic negotiations. The fifth Old Dominion student, junior Ryan Grizzle of Newport News, served as secretary-general of the conference. He is one of only a small number of Americans (and the third Old Dominion student) ever to hold the honored position.

From July 17-20, Fred Warren, faculty director of Old Dominion's Model U.N. program, traveled with four students to Sarande, Albania, to help train high school students how to run and chair a Model U.N. conference. The Old Dominion group, internationally recognized as one of the premier Model U.N. programs, was invited by the Albania Youth Model United Nations. This first-ever Model U.N. conference in Albania was sponsored by Canada's International Development Agency in conjunction with Albania's Jehona Youth Association.

"We were pleased and honored to have the opportunity to help promote the workings of the United Nations throughout the world, while serving as goodwill ambassadors for Old Dominion University," said Warren.
