MENGISTU RECEIVES FULBRIGHT TO ETHIOPIA

Berhanu Mengistu, professor of urban studies and public administration and director of Old Dominion University's graduate program in urban services, has received a Fulbright Senior Specialists grant to Addis Ababa University Faculty of Business and Economics (RLDS) in Ethiopia.

Mengistu will spend six weeks this summer engaged in teaching graduate level courses in development issues and finance, conducting workshops in public budgeting and finance, and researching with the goal of writing an academic text on governmental budgeting and finance with a focus on fiscal policy and privatization in developing nations

Mengistu is among the first grantees under the new Fulbright Senior Specialists short-term grants program. The new program offers two- to six-week grants to leading U.S. academics and professionals to support curricular and faculty development and institutional planning at academic institutions in 140 countries around the world. Created to complement the 55-year-old traditional Fulbright Scholar Program, the Senior Specialists Program aims at increasing the number of faculty and professionals who have the opportunity to go abroad on a Fulbright.

A member of the Old Dominion faculty since 1985, Mengistu received a bachelor's degree from Walla Walla College, a master's degree in public administration from Arizona State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Delaware.
