TWO ATHLETES NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICANS

Old Dominion women's tennis team member Mily Kannarkat of Virginia Beach and field hockey's Adrienne Yoder of Coopersburg, Pa., were named District III Academic All-Americans by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Both will advance to the national ballot, which will be released later this month.

To be eligible for the Verizon Academic All-District team at-large team, a player must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and participate in a sport other than football, basketball, soccer, or volleyball. District III includes all NCAA Division I teams from Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

Kannarkat helped her team to 61st ITA national ranking as the Lady Monarchs finished the year with a 12-9 overall and 4-3 conference mark. Kannarkat posted a 15-5 singles record and was a perfect 5-0 in CAA play. Splitting time between third and fourth singles, Kannarkat won 13 of her final 14 matches of the season. In doubles play, she recorded a 12-9 mark. Additionally, she advanced to the Round of 32 at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic in January. Kannarkat posted a 3.97 GPA as a biology/pre-med major.

Yoder was named the Old Dominion Female Athlete of the Year after helping guide the Lady Monarchs to a 18-5 overall record and a second place national ranking. She was named the CAA Player of the Year, CAA Tournament MVP, and CAA Co-Defensive Player of the Year as an instrumental member Old Dominion's sixth consecutive CAA championship. Majoring in biology education, Yoder posted a 3.67 GPA.
