SAILORS CAPTURE SIXTH IN NATIONAL TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Old Dominion University sailing team finished sixth at the ICSA North American Team Race National Championships.
The Monarchs were 6-5 in their 11 races. Only Harvard (11-0), Georgetown (10-1), Tufts (9-2), and College of Charleston (8-3) advanced to the final round.
The Monarchs six victories were against Eckerd, Minnesota, UC Santa Barbara, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin.
Sailing for Old Dominion were Brad Funk (Harbor Bluffs, Fla.), Lis Biondi (Norwalk, Conn.), Matt Allen (Beverly, Mass.), Anna Cobb (Mechanicsville, Va.), Ryan Thorvaldsen (Sayville, N.Y.), and Megan Bartley (Oak Park, Ill.), with Jack Kerr (Seattle, Wash.), Bill Berg (Longwood, Fla.), and Debbie Capozzi (Bayport, La.) as alternates.
The Monarchs will now compete in the ICSA Co-ed Dinghy National Championships which begin Thursday. Thus far, this season the Monarchs have won the women's championship, and in the fall took second in the men's singlehanded, and third at the women's singlehanded championships.
