LOCAL STUDENTS RECEIVE SPACE GRANT CONSORTIUM AWARDS
Nine area students have received undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships from the Virginia Space Grant Consortium.
The awards, worth $38,000 combined for the 2002-03 academic year, enhance Space Grant goals of enhancing opportunities for underrepresented populations in the sciences and engineering.
Since the inception of the program in 1990, the consortium has awarded nearly $2.8 million in scholarships and fellowships to 374 students.
The Old Dominion students, their hometowns and study areas are:
Aerospace Graduate Research Fellowships
Janet Bryant, Virginia Beach, psychology;
Penny Hix, Yorktown, electrical computer engineering;
Colleen Moore, Norfolk, psychology;
Tyrone Pate, Norfolk, electrical and computer engineering.
Aerospace Undergraduate Research Fellowships
Daniel Watkins, Portsmouth, computer science;
Randy Woods, Virginia Beach, electrical and computer engineering.
Teacher Education Scholarships
Joanna Jenkins, Virginia Beach, mathematics;
Denis Taveras, Richmond, mathemetics;
Anthony Townes, Hampton, mathematics.
