LEGENDS STUDENT RACE CAR TESTING BEGINS
Testing of the College of Engineering and Technology's Legends racecar began recently at Langley Speedway in Hampton.
Based at the Langley Full-Scale Tunnel and comprised of engineering and engineering technology students, the College's Legends team will compete against teams from other southeastern universities like the University of Virginia, North Carolina State University, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and the University of South Carolina in the Intercollegiate Auto Racing Association (ICARA).
The ICARA series uses racecars known as Legends cars, which are 5/8 scale replicas of 1930s and 40s stock cars. The cars weigh about 1200 pounds, are powered by 1200cc motorcycle engines, and are capable of speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour.
