DHARAMSI NAMED IEEE DISTINGUISHED LECTURER FOR SECOND YEAR

Amin Dharamsi, professor of electrical and computer engineering at Old Dominion University, who was named a Distinguished Lecturer of the Lasers and Electro-optic Society (LEOS) of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in April 2001, recently was selected to continue as a Distinguished Lecturer for a second year.

As a Distinguished Lecturer, Dharamsi traveled to Scotland, the Harry Diamond Lab in Northern Virginia, the University of Maryland, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (Boulder, Colorado), and the University of New Mexico. He has received invitations to give talks in New York, Paris, Rome, and Greece, as well as in Melbourne and Victoria, Australia, and hopes to lecture in at least some of these locations during the coming year. The topic of his lecture is "Advanced Optical Sensing Using Laser Modulation Spectroscopy for Industrial and Scientific Applications."

In the past two decades, Dharamsi has made several contributions to the area of non-intrusive measurements with lasers, and the work for which he currently is being cited is in an area in which he has been making significant contributions for the past seven years.

Distinguished Lecturer Awards are presented by the Lasers and Electro-optic Society (LEOS) of IEEE to honor researchers who have made significant contributions to the field of lasers and electro-optics and who have enhanced the programs of local LEOS Chapters. Currently, only three awards are given nationwide each year.
