TOSCANO SELECTED TO PRESTIGIOUS GOVERNOR'S FELLOWS PROGRAM

James Toscano, who received a bachelor's degree in communications this month from Old Dominion University, was recently selected to participate in the Governor's Fellows Program. The full-time, unpaid internship will run May 31 through July 26.

Established in 1982, the program offers a select group of highly motivated individuals the opportunity to experience firsthand the administration of state government in the commonwealth. Fellows are based solely on merit.

Toscano, from Baldwin, N.Y., will be placed in different positions throughout the Governor's Office and in various agencies under the governor's jurisdiction in an attempt to match Fellows with compatible assignments according to background, interests and goals. After graduation, he plans to continue his education and pursue a career in media management.

At Old Dominion, Toscano has managed WODU, the student-run radio station, for two years and was the student representative to the Board of Visitors as a junior. A Dean's List student and member of the Honors College, Toscano has a 3.46 grade point average and received the Virginia Association of Broadcasters Summer Scholar Award and the John Bayliss Broadcast Foundation scholarship, which is given to only 19 undergraduate and graduate students at colleges and universities nationwide.
