PHI KAPPA PHI INDUCTS ALUMNI, STUDENTS, FACULTY AND ADMINISTRATORS

Fourteen faculty and administrators, five alumni and 259 students were inducted into the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at the university chapter's annual induction ceremony. The initiation was held in conjunction with the Academic Honors and Awards Ceremony. More than 100 students were recognized for academic achievement.

It was announced at the ceremony that Rosemarie Liu, a senior biological sciences major, was selected to receive the Slator Fellowship, one of 52 national Phi Kappa Phi graduate fellowships, each of which carries a stipend of $8,000 for the first year of graduate or professional study. The Slator award is considered the highest Phi Kappa Phi graduate honor. The university chapter also presented Liu, who is from Burke, Va., with a scholarship check for $500.

Liu was enrolled in the joint Old Dominion University/Eastern Virginia Medical School program for medicine and will continue her studies at EVMS.

Faculty and administrators inducted into Phi Kappa Phi were: Claire Ackiss, acting director of alumni relations; Francis Adams, associate professor of political science and geography; Vinod Agarwal, chair of economics; Ali Ardalan, associate dean of business; Lesa Clark, director of multicultural student services; Robert Curry, coordinator of advising services for TELETECHNET; Julie Dodd, director of the Women's Center; John Ford, professor of marketing; Robert Holden, Associate professor of history; Sharon Joyner, coordinator of testing; Alice McAdory, director of admissions; Lois Reid, director of residence life; Aleene Rose, director of the Writing Center; Martha Sharpe, director of university planning and institutional research; and Keith Williamson, assistant professor of mechanical engineering.

Thomas W. Moss of Norfolk, who served for many years in the Virginia House of Delegates, was inducted as an honorary member of Phi Kappa Phi.

The university chapter also honored Lien T. Phan, a biological sciences major from Hampton, with an Award of Excellence. She received a life membership in the society.

Old Dominion's PKP chapter honored Carl Champagne, a computer engineering major from Norfolk, as the Outstanding Sophomore, and Elizabeth Spencer, a medical technology major from Norfolk, as the Outstanding Junior. Each received a scholarship check for $500. Champagne is the son of Paul Champagne, professor of business management.
