OLD DOMINION TO HOST GRADUATE STUDENT SYMPOSIUM MAY 28

The American Physical Society's Division of Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics (DAMOP) 2002 Graduate Student Symposium will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, at Old Dominion University.

The symposium, hosted by the Department of Physics at Old Dominion University, is in conjunction with the DAMOP general meeting at the College of William and Mary from May 29 to June 1.

The Old Dominion program aims to provide an introduction to topics of interest to graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in atomic, molecular and optical physics. Speakers and their topics include: Margaret Murnane, University of Colorado, "How to Make Atoms Sing and Molecules Dance: Using Shaped Light Pulses to Observe and Control Nature"; Christopher Monroe, University of Michigan, "Quantum Information for Dummies"; and William D. Phillips, National Institute of Standards and Technology, "Bose-Einstein Condensation: Teaching a Gazillion Atoms to Sing in Perfect Harmony and Dance in Perfect Step."

Registration for the Old Dominion symposium is $50.
