KOSNIK TO PLAY ON $1 MILLION ORGAN

James W. Kosnik, professor of music at Old Dominion and organist and choir director at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Norfolk, will perform an organ concert on the new $1 million pipe organ at St. Olaf Catholic Church in downtown Minneapolis Saturday, May 18.

The concert will be recorded by Minnesota Public Radio for possible broadcast on Michael Barone's nationally syndicated radio program, "Pipedreams." As host, Barone said he will provide "verbal program notes and showcase the music, the organ and the musicians."

The concert would be Kosnik's third broadcast on NPR.

The concert will feature the five-member Liturgical Organists Consortium: Kosnik, Lynn Trapp, Alison Luedecke, Robert Gallagher and Mary Beth Bennett of St. Bede Catholic Church in Williamsburg. The consortium promotes the liturgical use and appreciation of the pipe organ and its repertoire, specializing in the musical tradition of the Roman Catholic Church. The members of the consortium have been featured as recitalists and clinicians in the United States and Europe.

The $1 million Lively-Fulcher pipe organ is the subject of a feature article in the May issue of The American Organist.
