UNIVERSITY DANCE THEATRE SPRING CONCERT PLANNED FOR APRIL 18-20

The Old Dominion University Dance Theatre will hold its annual Spring Dance Concert Thursday-Saturday, April 18-20, in the University Theatre, located inside the Technology Building at 46th Street and Hampton Boulevard. The program will include works by guest artists, faculty and students.

Guest artist and adjunct faculty member Beverly Cordova Duane will present "Bailadora," a comedic and unpredictable sextet inspired by musical theme of Vida singer, Stephanie Heideman. Duane will also present "Erosion," a dance that features Old Dominion students representing elements of the Earth and its personified landscape.

Other featured performers include adjunct faculty member Cheryl Simmons, who will present a large-group work as a tribute to jazz choreographer Bob Fosse. Marilyn Marloff, director of the dance program, will premiere a fast-paced dance for three women.

Three original works choreographed by Old Dominion students will complete the program. Rachel Wilson's piece, "7 Full Glasses of Rejection-Ade," is a humorous, theatrical look at the experience of rejection. Oscar Operio will present "The Amalgam of Dance," which explores various popular male dances. "Idiosyncrasies," performed by Meredith Geary, is a humorous but abstract work based on the observation of individual quirks and habits.

Performances will be at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, with an additional performance at 2 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for the general public.
