ODU'S NATIONAL YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAM STARTS TODAY

Old Dominion University will host the National Youth Sports Program (NYSP) again this year at the Norfolk campus and in Virginia Beach.

Structured enrichment activities, plus swimming, basketball, tennis, volleyball, soccer and golf activities, will be held for at-risk children ages 10-16 from June 17 to July 20.

The program on the Norfolk campus will be from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; the Virginia Beach program will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at Plaza Middle School. There will be no programming offered July 4.

The NYSP serves nearly 70,000 children annually nationwide. About 200 colleges and universities last year hosted the programs combining the promotion of athletic know-how and life skills.

The free program, which is open to the public as well as dependents of Old Dominion hourly and classified employees, is sponsored by the NCAA and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
