LADY MONARCHS WIN 11TH CAA CHAMPIONSHIP
The Old Dominion Lady Monarchs won their 11th consecutive Colonial Athletic Association championship Saturday night to secure an NCAA tournament bid. Pairings will be announced Sunday.
Old Dominion bested UNC-Wilmington, 76-48, in what might have been the last game at the university's storied Field House. It is possible the university will be selected as a host site for the NCAA tournament first-round.
Four Lady Monarchs were named to the All-Tournament team. Okeisha Howard of Virginia Beach was selected as tournament MVP. She was joined by teammates Lucienne Berthieu (Rennes, France), Monique Coker (Bronx, N.Y.) and Hamchetou Maiga (Bamako, Mali).
Howard earned the MVP honor thanks to her clutch play during the Lady Monarchs 68-63 overtime victory over George Mason University on Friday, which got the team to the championship game.
