LADY MONARCHS UPSET PURDUE
The Old Dominion University Lady Monarchs Monday night 74-70 overtime upset of the Purdue Boilermakers on their home court ended the Boilermakers' 26-game winning streak at home and advanced the Lady Monarchs to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
Old Dominion will play third seeded Kansas State in the Mideast Regional semifinals on Saturday in Milwaukee. The game will be broadcast at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
Old Dominion lost in the first round a year ago. Before that, the Lady Monarchs reached the round of 16 five straight times, including a trip to the 1997 title game.
The Lady Monarchs beat Purdue 69-65 in overtime in the second round of the NCAA tournament in 1997.
