LADY MONARCHS REACH ELITE EIGHT

The seventh-seeded Old Dominion University Lady Monarchs reached the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament Saturday with a decisive victory over third-seeded Kansas State, 88-62.

The women will take on top-seeded University of Connecticut tonight at 7:30 p.m. in a game that will air live on ESPN.

Led by senior Lucienne Berthieu with 30 points and sophomore Monique Coker's 8-for-8 shooting, the Lady Monarchs easily handled the Wildcats by shooting 66 percent from the field.

Coach Wendy Larry told reporters after the victory that her team would need to have another stellar game if they hope to upset the nation's No. 1 team, which remains undefeated following a victory over Penn State Saturday.

The two teams met earlier this year with UConn winning 84-70 at the Old Dominion Field House on Dec. 29. That 14-point deficit was one of only six times this season UConn won by less than 20 points.
