'THE TRASHANATOR' TAKES THE STAGE MARCH 29
Old Dominion University's Playtime Theatre for All Ages will present the world premiere of the educational comedic play, "The Trashanator," at 7 p.m. Friday, March 29, in the University Theatre, 46th Street and Hampton Boulevard, Norfolk.
Written and directed by Frankie Little Hardin, "The Trashanator" is being produced with the sponsorship of the Southeastern Public Service Authority.
The script incorporates lessons and tips on how to better care for the environment through proper waste disposal, including information on properly recycling different types of plastics, hazardous waste, and the location of the nearest landfill.
The play is set within a television set allowing the characters to portray mock versions of popular TV and film stars, including the title character, which is based on one of Hollywood's most recognizable protagonists � Arnold Schwarzenegger's "The Terminator."
Eight actors will play a wide spectrum of roles. Costume designer Rose Henderson is creating more than 30 individual costumes for the production.
"This actually brings together two of the great passions in my life," Hardin said. "One is children's theater and the other is nature-related activism. We hope that this will eventually evolve into a touring production because the message is important."
Additional performances will be at 11 a.m., and 2:30 and 7 p.m. Saturday, March 30. Tickets are $3 for children and $5 for adults.
