SCIENCE ART EXHIBIT ON DISPLAY AT VIRGINIA BEACH MUSEUM
Microphotographs taken by a researcher in Old Dominion University's Department of Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (OEAS) are being featured in an art exhibit at the Virginia Marine Science Museum in Virginia Beach.
The enlarged images are of marine and estuarine organisms, most of them so tiny that they must be viewed under a microscope to be seen. They were taken in the lab and on research trips by OEAS Research Assistant Professor Lisa Drake using a digital camera attached to a microscope.
The organisms were collected from three tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay -- the Lafayette, Elizabeth and Rappahannock rivers -- as well as the Bahamas and California's Monterey Bay.
The images will be on display outside the museum's IMAX theatre through the summer. The museum is located at 717 General Booth Blvd.
