JAPANESE THEATRE TROUPES TO VISIT OLD DOMINION
Old Dominion University will host the Kanze Style Noh & Kyogen theatre troupes at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, at the Old Dominion University Theatre, 46th Street and Hampton Boulevard.
Noh and Kyogen are Japan's oldest form of theatrical performances. Noh is a stage presentation of music, drama and dance of ancient origin and is strongly influenced by the Zen philosophy. A Kuogen is a short comedic play.
Old Dominion is among only three performance sites in Virginia. In addition to the performances, a Noh Troupe Workshop is open to the public from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, March 23.
The event will feature guests from Tokyo, Japan, and is sponsored by the university's Japanese studies program, Office of International Programs, music department, theatre program and the Japan Foundation.
