CVC CAMPAIGN TOPS GOAL BY NEARLY 8 PERCENT

Once again, the campus community demonstrated its tradition of generosity in the annual Combined Virginia Campaign by exceeding the universitywide goal. Employees pledged $121,632, nearly 108 percent of the $113,000 goal.

The statewide fund drive collects donations for a host of local, regional, national and international nonprofit health and
humanitarian organizations, including United Way of South Hampton Roads.

The Office of Institutional Advancement led the way in the percentage of employee participation at 85 percent. The Darden College of Education was second at 59 percent.

Six units exceeded their individual goals: Athletics, 182 percent; Institutional Advancement, 158 percent; Academic Affairs Central, 156 percent; President's Office, 148 percent; Student Services, 111 percent; and College of Sciences,110 percent.

This year, as in past years, Old Dominion received a CVC Platinum Award based on an average employee contribution of $100 or more and a participation rate above 40 percent. Old Dominion qualified on both counts, with an average employee gift of $147 and a participation rate of 40.28 percent. A total 829 members of the campus community contributed to the campaign.

"Old Dominion was the only state university to achieve this level of excellence for the 2001 campaign," said Heather Huling, who led the university campaign.

Other state agencies and organizations receiving a Platinum Award were: Board for People with Disabilities, Commission on Local Government, Department of Environmental Quality, Department of Human Resource Management, Department of Planning and Budget, Department of Technology Planning, Department of Veterans Affairs, House of Delegates, Joint Legislative and Audit Review Commission, Office of the Attorney General, Virginia Housing Development Authority and the Virginia State Bar.
