ACCLAIMED CUBAN FILMMAKER TO SCREEN FILM TODAY
Distinguished Cuban filmmaker Fernando Perez will show his latest film, "La Vida es Silbar" ("Life is to Whistle"), at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, in the auditorium of the Mills Godwin Jr. Life Sciences Building.
The screening is a preview event for the Fifth Annual Old Dominion University Film Festival: Visions of Peace and War, which will be held April 7-12. The film, which is in Spanish with English subtitles, is free and open to the public.
The 1998 drama-comedy, which swept the top prizes at the New Latin American Cinema Festival and won the Special Jury Award at the 1999 Sundance Festival, tells the story of three people looking for happiness in modern-day Havana. Critics have called the film "thoughtfully filmed" and "unabashedly enjoyable."
