TOSCANO RECEIVES AWARD FROM BROADCAST FOUNDATION

James Toscano, a senior communication major from Baldwin, N.Y., has been awarded a $5,000 scholarship from the John Bayliss Broadcast Foundation.

The awards were given to 19 undergraduate and graduate students at colleges and universities nationwide for the 2001-02 academic year. Students were chosen based on academic achievement and extracurricular activities in radio.

A member of the Honors College, Toscano will graduate in May with a bachelor's degree in communication and a minor in public law. He has worked at WODU for four years as a DJ/talk show host and has served as general manager the last two years. Toscano received the Virginia Association of Broadcasters Summer Scholar Award for 2001.

Last year Toscano was appointed as the student representative on the Board of Visitors, a position that had not existed for 18 years. After graduation, he plans to continue his education and pursue a career in media management.
