ONE WORKER SLIGHTLY INJURED IN ACCIDENT AT CONSTRUCTION SITE
A boom on a crane being used at the Constant Convocation Center construction site collapsed Monday morning while placing some steel trusses for the center's roof. The crane operator suffered minor injuries and was treated at a Norfolk hospital.
S.B. Ballard Construction, the center's contractor, and Old Dominion University's structural engineer are assessing the roof structural system and other components of the building infrastructure. Work inside the arena will be suspended until their assessment is complete on Wednesday.
Work continues on the rest of the site. Officials anticipate resuming full operation by the latter part of the week.
It is too early to tell what impact, if any, the accident will have on the construction schedule.
