COMPUTATIONAL SCIENCES BUILDING GROUNDBREAKING SET FOR TODAY

A groundbreaking ceremony for the Engineering and Computational Sciences Building will be held in conjunction with the Board of Visitors meeting today.

The ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, on the lawn behind Quarantine Road, near the southwest corner of Webb Center.

The $12.8 million, four-story building will bring the university's programs and support services in aerospace engineering, math and computer sciences under one roof. The facility will also house new laboratory and support space, as well as the recently approved Center for Computational Sciences.

Pile-driving at the site could start as early as next month. Construction on the building will begin in the spring, with a projected completion in fall 2003, according to Robert Fenning, vice president for administration and finance.
