ROTC STUDENT FEATURED IN CHRONICLE OF HIGHER EDUCATION
Old Dominion University student Michelle Ausfresser is featured in an article on Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) enrollments on college campuses in the November 16 issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education. The story includes a photo and quotes from Ausfresser.
In "ROTC Enjoys Interest, but Will It Enlist More Recruits?", Ausfresser is cited as an example of students who enrolled in the college military program following the September 11 terrorist attacks. She gives partial credit for her enrollment to "a new sense of what it means to be an American and a new sense of duty to protect the country's freedoms." However, the article points out that her final decision was made after a year of studying the program and careful consideration.
"I had had a strong feeling for a long time about what the military was offering me, in terms of a chance to travel and to continue my education. Knowing it would help me pay my student loans and give me a strong foundation for a future career were benefits, too," she says in the story.
