FOUR OLD DOMINION GRADS PREVAIL IN TUESDAY'S ELECTION

Four Old Dominion University alumni are headed to Richmond to serve in the General Assembly after winning seats in Tuesday's election.

New delegates John Cosgrove of Chesapeake and Winsome E. Sears of Norfolk will join Kenneth R. Plum and Harry R. "Bob" Purkey, who were both re-elected.

Cosgrove, who is Chesepeake's vice mayor and a Republican, will represent the 78th District. He earned 65 percent of the vote to defeat Democrat Jo Ann Huskey, who also is a 1984 Old Dominion graduate with a degree in psychology. Cosgrove earned his bachelor's degree in engineering technology in 1985.

Sears, a Republican running for office for the first time, defeated 20-year incumbant Democrat William P. Robinson Jr. for the 90th District seat with 53 percent of the vote. Sears received her bachelor's degree in English in 1992.

Democrat Plum of Fairfax was unopposed in his bid to retain his seat in the 36th District. He earned a bachelor's degree in art in 1965. Likewise, Republican Purkey of Virginia Beach was unopposed in his bid for re-election in the 82nd District. He is a 1968 graduate with a bachelor of business administration degree.
