FALL DANCE CONCERT SET FOR NOV. 15-17

Old Dominion University's Dance Theatre will present its Fall Dance Concert Nov. 15-17 at the University Theatre, located on Hampton Boulevard between 46th and 47th streets. The program will include works by students, faculty and guest artists in a wide variety of styles ranging from jazz to modern to ballet.

Guest artist Beverly Cordova Duane, co-director of the Norfolk-based Second Wind Dance Company, will premiere an energetic and hypnotic modern dance piece for five women. The dance will be accompanied by Bulgarian music by Vida, a female a cappella quartet most recently seen performing for the Virginia Arts Festival.

Old Dominion alumnae Jacqueline Patch, who recently earned her MFA in dance from New York University, will present a new modern dance work titled "Satisfied Mind." Her dance, an all-female trio to the acoustical guitar music of Rufus Wainwright, was inspired by the events of Sept. 11. The theme is finding contentment in each moment and being at peace with oneself.

Assistant Professor Amanda Kinzer, a recent addition to the Old Dominion dance faculty, will restage her ballet quintet "Shifting," to the classical guitar music of Joaquin de Rodrigo. This dance is a contemporary ballet piece that interchanges flowing adagio movement with up-beat jumps and turns. She will also premiere a new modern duet, "Insecure Attachment," to the bluesy/ techno music of R.L. Burnside. The piece explores the changing relationship of two women, with a quirky, off-center movement style.

Additional works by student choreographers, some in response to the tragedy of Sept. 11, will round-off an evening of original and diverse dances.

Tickets are available at the door: $7 for general admission and $5 for students.

Performances will be 8 p.m. each night, with a second Saturday show at 2 p.m. For more information, call 683-3002 or 683-4354.
