EDUCATIONAL AID DEADLINE IS TODAY

Qualified employees and their dependents have until Monday, Dec. 3, to apply for spring semester educational assistance and scholarships from the Human Resources Department. Funds are available on a seniority basis.

Educational assistance is available to classified employees who have worked at Old Dominion for at least one year and make less than $75,000 annually. The Human Resources Department will pay for a maximum of 15 credit hours for the year - three credit hours in the summer and six each in the fall and spring. Scholarships for the same number of credit hours are also available for full-time classified employees' spouses and dependents.

Part-time classified and hourly employees with three or more years of service to the university are also eligible for educational assistance. Scholarships are available for their spouses and dependents, as well. For these employees, spouses and dependents, the Human Resources Department will pay a prorated amount of the tuition fees for up to 15 credit hours, based on the number of hours the part-time employee works during a 40-hour week.

Scholarships are available for faculty and faculty administrators (nine credit hours per year) and their dependents and spouses (a maximum of three credit hours each in the fall, spring and summer). The employee or sponsoring employee must have at least one year of full-time university service and make less than $75,000 annually.

Tuition assistance for graduate-level courses taken by faculty and staff will no longer be taxable beginning with the spring 2002 semester. Tuition assistance for graduate-level courses taken by dependents and spouses will still be considered as taxable income.

Receiving tuition assistance from the Human Resources Department may affect any other financial aid award a student may receive.
