DEAN OF YALE'S MANAGEMENT SCHOOL TO ADDRESS ECONOMICS CLUB NOV. 8

Jeffrey Garten, dean of Yale University's School of Management, will speak to Old Dominion University's Economics Club of Hampton Roads at a luncheon Thursday, Nov. 8.

Co-sponsored by Old Dominion's College of Business and Public Administration and the World Affairs Council of Greater Hampton Roads, the luncheon will begin at noon at the Sheraton Waterside Hotel in downtown Norfolk. Due to limited space, reservations are required. The cost of the luncheon is $30 for nonmembers.

Garten, who served as undersecretary of commerce for international trade under President Clinton, is an author and monthly columnist for Business Week. In addition to his three books, the latest titled "The Mind of a CEO," Garten has written for publications such as Harvard Business Review, Foreign Affairs, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.

In his 13 years on Wall Street, Garten specialized in debt restructuring in Latin America for Lehman Brothers, building Lehman's investment banking business in Asia, restructuring some of the world's largest shipping companies in Hong Kong, and working on mergers and acquisitions for The Blackstone Group.

Garten earned his Ph.D. and master's degree from Johns Hopkins University and his bachelor's from Dartmouth College.

John Bogle will be the next speaker for the series on Dec.12. He is the founder and former chairman of The Vanguard Group.
