OLD DOMINION POLICE JOIN STATE'S ELITE
The Old Dominion University Police Department is just the second law enforcement office at a public institution, and first in a major urban setting, to gain accreditation from the state of Virginia.
The accreditation process, which began more than two years ago, included developing implementing new policies and procedures to meet the 214 rigorous standards administered by the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission (VLEPSC). Standards include all policies involving administrative, operational, personnel and training activities.
A three-member accreditation team completed a two-day assessment in June of Old Dominion's compliance with state standards by extensively reviewing department files, touring police facilities and talking with officers about their training.
