HOW CAN YOU HELP VICTIMS OF TUESDAY'S ATTACK?
Old Dominion University will provide shuttle bus service for students, faculty and staff wishing to donate blood at Norfolk Scope today. The Virginia Rice Webb Room in Webb Center also will be available for use in observing today's National Day of Prayer and Remembrance.
Service will begin at 8:15 a.m. and run until 4:30 p.m. Busses will leave Webb Center and Elkhorn Avenue at fifteen minutes past the hour and head to the Clarion Hotel, where some students currently are housed, and on to Scope, then back to campus. The Clarion/Scope pick-up will be on the half-hour.
In response to President Bush's call for today to be a National Day of Prayer and Remembrance, the University Chaplain's Association has reserved the Virginia Rice Webb room in Webb Center for the entire day as a place where all members of the University community can pause to pray, remember and reflect. There will be cards available for privately leaving the names of specific people whom you would like to remember. All faith traditions are welcome and respected.
In fact, there are a number of ways members of the Old Dominion community can help victims of Tuesday's terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C., with the major ones being giving blood or money, and by showing their pride in America.
Ribbons are being given out at the Campus Information Center in Webb Center Lobby.
The History Honor Society is collecting bottled water and white cotton socks to help rescue workers in New York and Washington, D.C. Supplies can be dropped off in room 700 or 800 of the Batten Arts and Letters Building and in room 110 of the Mills Godwin Jr. Life Sciences Building.
In addition to the blood drives from noon - 6 p.m. today at Norfolk Scope, another blood drive will be held Saturday, Sept. 15, from noon to 6 p.m. at Chesapeake General Hospital.

The Red Cross has activated its Aviation Incident Response (AIR) Team to respond in New York City, and trained disaster workers are providing relief in New York and Washington. Blood donations in inventory are ready to ship to the affected areas and donations will be needed to replenish the nation's supply.

In addition, the United Way of South Hampton Roads has set up a special fund. Individuals can contribute through the
United Way campaign by designating to the "Attack on America Relief Fund" on their pledge cards or they can send a check or money order to the United Way of South Hampton Roads, P.O. Box 41069, Norfolk, VA 23541. The money will go directly to the victims and families affected by this terrible tragedy.
