CLARINETIST TO PERFORM FOR DIEHN CONCERT SERIES TONIGHT

Highly acclaimed chamber musician and clarinet soloist David Shifrin will give a solo recital at 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, in Chandler Recital Hall of the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public, but seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.

Shifrin often evokes an ecstatic response to his performances with orchestra, in recital and on recordings. He frequently appears with such distinguished chamber ensembles as the Guarneri, Tokyo and Emerson string quartets, and is artistic director of Chamber Music Northwest in Portland, Ore.

Winner of the prestigious Avery Fisher Prize, Shifrin is a recipient of a Solo Recitalists Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. Currently a professor at Yale University, he has also served on the faculties of the Juilliard School, the University of Southern California, the University of Michigan, the Cleveland Institute of Music and the University of Hawaii.

Shifrin records for the Delos, Arabesque and CRI labels. His recording of the "Copland Clarinet Concerto" for Angel/ EMI received a Grammy nomination. His Delos recording of the "Mozart Clarinet Concerto" with the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra received a Record of the Year award from Stereo Review.

Other recordings include "French Chamber Music" with Andre Previn on BMG, Wynton Marsalis' "Fiddler's Tale" on Sony and "Mozart-Brahms Clarinet Quintets" with the Emerson String Quartet on DGG.
