GRAND OPENING FOR LAMBERT'S POINT WELLNESS CENTER TODAY
Thanks in part to a grant from the Sentara Foundation and space donated by Norfolk United Methodist Church, students in School of Nursing will be able to provide health education and assistance to resident's of Norfolk's Lambert's Point neighborhood through Old Dominion's new Community Wellness Center.
A grand opening celebration will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, Friday, Aug. 10 at the church, 2729 Bowdens Ferry Road.
Students and trained community volunteers will provide free blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol screenings. Information also will be available on diabetes, blood pressure management, stress management and alcohol abuse.
Plans are to increase services in the coming months using students from Old Dominion's schools of Physical Therapy, Dental Hygiene, and Medical Laboratory and Radiation Sciences.
The center will be open from 6-8 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month and each Friday from 9 a.m. to noon.
