KATZ APPOINTED INTERIM DEAN
Janet Katz has been appointed interim dean of the College of Arts and Letters, effective Aug. 15.
She will take over the duties of Karen Gould, who has announced her resignation to join the University of Cincinnati as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Katz will serve as interim dean until the position is filled.
As associate dean for the past eight years, Katz has been responsible for undergraduate student issues and concerns, summer school, scheduling, TELETECHNET activities, and space and equipment. She previously served as interim dean of the college in 1995-96.
"Janet is knowledgeable about all aspects of the college, and I believe she is the ideal candidate for the position of interim dean," said former Provost Jo Ann Gora, who announced the appointment.
A national search to fill the dean's position on a permanent basis will begin in late summer or early fall. Cheryl Samuels, dean of the College of Health Sciences, will chair the search committee.
Department chairs in the college have been asked to forward the names of two faculty nominees for service on the search committee to David Hager, acting provost and vice president for academic affairs. He will select one nominee from each department to serve on the committee.
Nominations for the dean's position should be forwarded to Judy Bowman in the Office of Academic Affairs.
