RAIN FORCES 'THREE THURSDAYS IN JUNE' CONCERT SERIES INDOORS
Soaking rain this week has forced the move indoors of Old Dominion's popular outdoor concert series, "Three Thursdays in June."
The series opens its fourth year Thursday with a performance by the Virginia Symphony, under the direction of Wes Kenney. The concert will be held at 7 p.m. in the University Theatre, 47th Street and Hampton Boulevard. The show is free and open to the public.
On June 14, the Great American Music Ensemble will be back to perform a selection of jazz tunes, followed by the Uptown Vocal Jazz Quartet on June 21. A new addition to the lineup, the quartet puts its mark on vocal jazz with a distinctive brand of tight harmonies, swing rhythms and inventive vocalise lyrics.
Concerts will be held on Kaufman Mall in front of Webb Center, weather permitting.
Concert-goers are advised to bring blankets or lawn chairs to the outdoor concerts. Refreshments and picnic food will be on sale. In case of rain, concerts will be held in the University Theatre.
