GEORGIA STATE ASSISTANT JOINS LADY MONARCHS COACHING STAFF

Susan Montgomery, an assistant basketball coach at Georgia State University for the last four years and former head coach at Kennesaw State University, has joined women's basketball coach Wendy Larry's team as an assistant coach.

"We are pleased that the Lady Monarch program has been able to attract someone of Susan Montgomery's experience and success on both the high school and collegiate levels," said Larry. "She has been an extended member of the Old Dominion family for many years and is familiar with our goals and aspirations."

"My relationship with Old Dominion began 13 years ago with two of my former high school players joining this program," noted Montgomery. "It is a tremendous honor and privilege for me to represent a program with such a rich tradition, and I look forward to learning from one of the most respected coaches in the game today."

Georgia State captured the TAAC Conference crown this past year and advanced to the NCAA tournament. Montgomery served as an assistant for one year at South Florida in 1996 and was the head coach at Kennesaw State University in Marietta, Ga., from 1992-95. As a high school coach in Valdosta, Ga., from 1986-91, two of her players were recruited and played for Old Dominion, including Cassandra Twine and the late Esther Benjamin. From 1984-86, she was the head women's softball coach and an assistant basketball coach in the Berrien County Schools in Nashville, Ga.

Montgomery's Kennesaw State 1993 squad captured the NAIA district 25 title and competed in the national tournament, while the 1992 team was ranked as high as 16th nationally and a NAIA national tournament participant.

Montgomery holds a bachelor's (1983) and master's degree in health and physical education (1989) from Valdosta State.
