PHI KAPPA PHI INDUCTS FIVE FACULTY, 239 STUDENTS

Five faculty members, one administrator, one alumnus and 239 students were inducted into the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at the university chapter's annual induction ceremony at the end of the spring semester.

The initiation was held in conjunction with the University Awards Program for students, sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs. Departments and colleges honored 119 students for academic achievement.

Faculty and administrators inducted as Phi Kappa Phi members were: Colin F. Box, associate professor of community health professions and physical therapy; Faye E. Coleman, associate professor of medical laboratory sciences and environmental health; Walter F. Deal III, associate professor of occupational and technical studies; Micah A. Scott, visiting assistant professor of nursing; C. Thomas Somma, chair of medical laboratory sciences and environmental health; and Cecelia T. Tucker, assistant to the president for community relations.

Robert R. Hardison, a graduate of the class of 1967, was also inducted, and the late Stanley Walker, a longtime state senator in the General Assembly, was posthumously honored.

Anshu Mahajan of Richmond was announced as the graduate fellowship nominee. Mahajan, who is in the joint EVMS program in medicine, received a $500 award and certificate from the Old Dominion chapter of Phi Kappa Phi and a $2,000 award from the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

The university chapter also recognized Candice D. Gabriel of Norfolk as the Outstanding Sophomore, and Kelly M. Bashford of Portsmouth as the Outstanding Junior. Gabriel, a biology major, and Bashford, a sociology major, each received a $500 award and certificate.
