PERRY LIBRARY NAMES RECIPIENTS OF ANNUAL STAFF AWARDS
The Old Dominion University Perry Library named Cherie Carl as Librarian of the Year and Celestine DeLoatch as Support Staff Member of the Year. As winners in the annual awards program, they each received a check for $100 and will have their names engraved on plaques that will be displayed in the library.
Carl, reference and research services librarian since 1998, has served students and faculty at the Virginia Beach Higher Education Center. She is credited with having established excellent working relationships with university staff members while maintaining a working connection with the Old Dominion main campus.
According to the award citation, Carl has made significant contributions to the library's support of the University's distance learning program. In addition, she has increased interlibrary loan and document delivery and has attended several conferences promoting professional development including the Virginia Library Association's annual conference in the fall.
DeLoatch, library assistant, who has been at the Perry Library since 1995, served as an office services assistant in the circulation department and served as office services specialist before assuming her current role as library assistant.
She is noted for her enthusiasm and dedication as she expanded her duties to assist the library during staff shortages performing a multitude of tasks including financial duties, reports and projects and patron services. DeLoatch also assisted with the Periodicals Project, staffed additional hours at the front desk, worked additional evenings and weekends and provided staffing assistance to the art library and Diehn Composers Room.
