OUTSTANDING SCHOLARS HONORED

Seven Old Dominion graduates were recognized as Outstanding Scholars for 2000-01.

Larissa Dolt, a Virginia Beach resident and native of Odessa, Ukraine, was named the university's overall Outstanding Scholar. A fine arts major from the College of Arts and Letters, she earned a 4.0 grade point average.

While a student, Dolt designed a Web site for the art department and she hopes to become a professional Web designer.

The top graduates were presented trophies as recipients of the Alumni Association Outstanding Scholar Awards, given to the graduating seniors with the highest grade point averages from each college. Also honored at the banquet were the university faculty members and administrators who most inspired the award recipients.

The top scholars and their inspirational faculty members are:

- Arts and Letters - Larissa Dolt, of Virginia Beach, fine arts, 4.0; Robert A. McCullough, associate professor of art.

- Business and Public Administration - Tracey A. Gillespie, of Chesapeake, finance, 3.98; John C. Bratton, assistant professor of finance.

- Education - Two recipients: Lisa E. DeBeauville, of Newport News, counseling, 4.0; Larry Story, TELETECHNET site director at the Peninsula Higher Education Center. Also, Andrew E. Perkins, of Carrsville, Va., technology education, 4.0; Karen A. Polonko, professor of sociology.

- Engineering and Technology - Matthew J. Posniewski, of Virginia Beach, civil engineering technology, 3.96; Carol L. Considine, assistant professor of engineering technology.

- Health Sciences - Gillian R. La Liberte, of Virginia Beach, environmental health, 3.91; A. James English, assistant professor of medical laboratory sciences and environmental health.

- Sciences - Lorissa A. Scott, of Virginia Beach, psychology, 4.0; Peter J. Mikulka, professor of psychology.
