OLD DOMINION SENIOR TO COMPETE IN ESPN SLAM DUNK CONTEST

Old Dominion University senior guard Michael Williams (Thomasville, Ga.) will compete in the 13th annual ESPN Slam Dunk Contest, Saturday, March 31 at Concordia University's Gangelhoff Center.

The Intersport event is in its 13th year and has become a college basketball tradition, annually showcasing the finest collegiate sharpshooters and high-risers in the country. The event begins with the men's three-point contest, followed by the women's three-point shootout. The slam dunk contest is next, followed by the battle of the sexes, a three-point shoutout between the men's and women's champion from earlier in the day.

ESPN's Dick Vitale and Brad Nessler will be courtside for the two-hour telecast, produced by Intersport Television.

The 6-0, 180-pound Willliams, known for his defense and outstanding athletic ability averaged 5.2 points per game for the Monarchs this past season. He completed his career at Old Dominion with 860 career points, 68 steals, 263 rebounds and 239 assists in 123 games. In 1996, Williams averaged 20.5 points and 4.5 assists for Thomas County Central High School and earned first team All-State honors.

Former Lady Monarch Aubrey Eblin ('99) competed in the three-point contest in 1999.

Joining Williams in the Slam Dunk Contest are Kenny Gregory (Kansas), Terry Black (Baylor), Jeff Trepagnier (USC), Marques Maybin (Louisville), Terence Morris (Maryland) and Andre Hutson (Michigan State).
