OLD DOMINION RECEIVES $2 MILLION AWARD FOR COLD PLASMA, PULSE POWER RESEARCH

The Physical Electronics Research Institute (PERI) of Old Dominion University College of Engineering and Technology received a $2 million, five-year award from the 2001 Multidisciplinary Research Program of the University Research Initiative (MURI).

The award, sponsored by the Department of Defense, will support the research of electrical and computer engineering research professors Robert Stark and Mounir Laroussi, electrical and computer engineering professors Ravindra Joshi and Karl H. Schoenbach and chemistry professor John Cooper. The award brings the total external support for pulse power and cold plasma research at Old Dominion to nearly $1 million per year.

"The MURI award strengthens Old Dominion's College of Engineering and Technology's position as a worldwide leader in pulsed power and cold plasma research," said Dean William Swart.

The MURI awards focus on basic science and engineering research that will eventually lead to applications for defense and commercial purposes.
