HISTORIAN ADDRESSES HOLOCAUST FOR TONIGHT'S LECTURE

Mark Mazower, a noted historian, author and lecturer, will discuss "City of Ghosts: Salonica Before and After the Holocaust" at 8 p.m. in the Mills Godwin Jr. Life Sciences Building auditorium. The free presentation is part of the President's Lecture Series. Reservations are not required.

Mazower has lectured extensively on 20th-century European history, focusing on the Holocaust, the Balkans and modern Greece. He is the Anniversary Professor of History at the University of London, and previously taught at Princeton University and the University of Sussex.

Mazower is the author of four books, including "Greece and the Inter-War Economic Crisis," which won the 1992 Runciman Award, and "Inside Hitler's Greece: The Experience of Occupation, 1941-1944," which was a joint winner of the 1993 Fraenkel Prize and the Longman's/History Today Book of the Year. Additionally, he has written articles for publications such as The Washington Post, The Guardian and The Jewish Quarterly.

Currently serving as co-editor of the Bulletin of Judaeo-Greek Studies, Mazower is also working on a history of modern Greece, a project commissioned by the Oxford University Press for its series "The Oxford History of Modern Europe."
Mazower earned his doctorate in modern history from Oxford University and his master's degree in international affairs from Johns Hopkins University.
