ENGINEERING CENTER AWARDED $1.65 MILLION NASA GRANT

The Center for Advanced Engineering Environments, part of the College of Engineering and Technology, has been awarded a three-year, $1.65 million grant by NASA Langley Research Center for research in distributed collaborative synthesis and learning technologies.

Directed by Ahmed K. Noor, professor of aerospace engineering and an internationally renowned researcher, the center conducts diverse research activities in the synergistic coupling of modeling, visual simulations, intelligent agents, multimedia and synthetic environments, human-computer interactions and computational intelligence, among other areas.

Under the grant, the center will conduct innovative research on aerospace applications of collaborative distributed synthesis; develop technologies, strategies and approaches for advanced learning environments; and conduct high-potential, high-risk research on revolutionary and leading-edge technologies, including nano, bio and information technologies.

Additionally, the center will form partnerships and collaborative agreements with leading universities and industry and technology providers that are developing collaborative distributed environments, and organize national workshops and symposia.

"NASA and the Old Dominion administration have been very supportive of the activities of the center and I am looking forward to an even stronger collaboration in the future," Noor said.
