ANNUAL FUND CAMPAIGN KICKS OFF TODAY

Old Dominion's Annual Fund campaign kicks off March 1, and the university again is counting on faculty and staff members to get the drive off to another great start.

Last year, nearly 600 members of the campus community contributed $100,956 to the campaign, which also targets alumni and Hampton Roads business leaders, and the bar for 2001 has been set at $105,000.

"A commitment by faculty and staff to give back to the university signifies loyalty, and I believe it is a sign of a healthy institution," said Don Runyon, assistant vice president for administration and finance, and co-chair of the 2001 Annual Fund campus campaign. "For us as employees to contribute to the Annual Fund sends a message to our students, to fellow faculty and staff members, and to state legislators that we care about and believe in the mission of Old Dominion University."

As in years past, members of the campus community who contribute $100 or more will be entered in a contest to win a reserved parking space for one year.

The theme of the 2001 campaign, "Together We Make the Pieces Fit," emphasizes the need for extra funding in a number of key areas to supplement state support of the university.

"This is an opportunity for the university community to help itself and I am pleased to be a part of it," said James Long, director of parking services, who is serving with Runyon as campus campaign co-chair.

In last year's Annual Fund campaign, the Office of the President won the Highest Participation Award, with 100 percent of its employees making a contribution. Faculty and staff from the College of Business and Public Administration gave the greatest amount of any of the campaign divisions -- $16,776.

Gifts to the campaign, which runs through April 6, may be made by payroll deduction.
