PUBLIC RADIO'S "BOOKS GUYS" TO DO LIVE TAPING AT OLD DOMINION

Get out your old books and dust them off they might be worth some money.

Public Radio's "Book Guys," Allan Stypeck and Mike Cuthbert, will do a live taping of their book appraisal radio show from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, in Room 101 of the Mills Godwin Jr. Life Sciences Building at Old Dominion University. Sponsored by Old Dominion's Friends of the Library and the Friends of the Jean Outland Chrysler Museum Library, the taping is free and open to the public.

The show, which began in the 1980s and is heard locally every Thursday at 1 p.m. on WHRV-FM, consists of a basic format in which Stypeck and Cuthbert appraise books based on descriptions from listeners. Discussions stemming from the appraisals often include topics such as other books by the same author or films made from the book.

Authors Janet Peery, an Old Dominion associate professor of English, and Alf Mapp Jr., renowned Jefferson scholar and eminent scholar emeritus of English, as well as Gordon Magnuson, a local book collector and seller, are invited guests for the taping.

From 4-5:30 p.m., immediately following the taping, Stypeck and Cuthbert will conduct free appraisals of audience members' old, rare or heirloom books.

For more information about the taping, call Old Dominion's Perry Library at 683-4141. To learn more about the "Book Guys," visit their Web site at www.bookguys.com.
