HALL OF FAMER HARMON KILLEBREW TO SPEAK AT BASEBALL CLINIC JAN. 26-27

Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew, Major League Baseball's fifth all-time home run hitter, will be the keynote speaker and clinician for the 24th annual Greenwich Kitchens/Old Dominion University Baseball Clinic, Jan. 26 and 27.

Tickets for the clinic, which will be held in the Old Dominion University Field House at 9 a.m. Jan. 27, are $5.

The weekend begins on Friday, Jan. 26 with the ACS Systems "Meet the Stars" Banquet at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel with a social at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person and are on sale at the Old Dominion Athletic Ticket Office. Proceeds from the sales support baseball scholarships at Old Dominion.

Killebrew played for the Washington Senators and the Minneosta Twins and hit 573 homers in his career. He won five home run titles and led the American League in RBI three times and twice in slugging. In 1969, he was the leagues Most Valuable Player when he hit 49 home runs, drove in 140 runs and walked 145 times. Those totals were tops in both leagues. Killebrew was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1984.

Killebrew played both third and first base during his career. He is third all-time in home run percentage at 7.0 behind only Babe Ruth and Ralph Kiner in home run percentage with 7.0. He had seven seasons with over 100 walks and is 10th on the all-time list with 1,559 career walks.

In 1965, Killebrew led the Minnesota Twins to the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, who won the series in seven games. He hit 49 homers in 1964 and, in 1962, hit 48 homers with 126 runs batted in. He hit 40 or more homers in seven seasons.
