FELLMAN HONORED BY WOMEN'S CAUCUS

The University Women's Caucus presented its Outstanding Woman of the Year award Jan. 24 to a well-known member of the Old Dominion faculty, Anita Fellman.

She was received a plaque in honor of her many years of distinguished achievements at the university, particularly for women faculty, students, administrators and staff.

Fellman has served as director of the Women's Studies Program since joining the university in 1988. She established the first undergraduate major in women's studies in Virginia.

"She has worked effectively on behalf of the Women's Studies Program as evidenced by many activities, including developing curricula, advising students and chairing the Women's Studies Advisory Council," said Women's Caucus President Jeanie Kline.

In addition, Fellman is credited with organizing the Women's Studies series, the Student Essay Contest and the "Work in Progress" conference, now in its 11th year.

A frequent writer and presenter on women's issues, Fellman also compiled and co-edited a book, "Ourselves as Students: Multicultural Voices in the Classroom," based on writings by Old Dominion students.

"We are truly enriched by Anita's presence and involvement on campus," said Kline.

During her tenure at the university, Fellman has received other awards, including the Award of Excellence in 1994 from the Old Dominion Coalition of Black Faculty and Administrators; a YWCA Outstanding Hampton Roads Woman award in 1993; and a Woman of the Year award presented by Hampton Roads Woman Magazine in 1992.
