ANNUAL ECONOMIC OUTLOOK CONFERENCE HELD TODAY

Gregory L. Miller, vice president and chief economist of SunTrust Bank, will be the featured speaker at the Old Dominion University Economics Club of Hampton Roads' annual Economic Outlook Conference Tuesday, Jan. 9.

Co-sponsored by Old Dominion University's College of Business and Public Administration, the conference will be held from 10:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sheraton Waterside Hotel in downtown Norfolk. Due to limited space, reservations are required. The cost for the luncheon is $30 for nonmembers.

Old Dominion professors Vinod Agarwal, Mohammad Najand and Gilbert Yochum will also give their economic forecast for the region during the conference.

A practicing economist, forecaster and teacher for more than 20 years, Miller forecasts the national economy for SunTrust, particularly as it affects interest rates, and is a member of several committees charged with interest rate setting, corporate investment and benefits policy. In addition to serving as a policy adviser for Wealth Management and Corporate Investment banking groups, he evaluates markets for and represents SunTrust in regulatory matters concerning potential mergers and acquisitions.

Prior to joining SunTrust, Miller taught economics and served in the Center for Economic and Management Research at the University of South Florida. He currently is a member of the University of South Florida's business college advisory board. Miller has also served as economic forecaster for two Florida governors in the State Economist's Office in Tallahassee.

A past president and current board member of the Atlanta Economics Club, Miller is president and founding director of the Atlanta Economics Foundation. Additionally, he is a member of the Economic Advisory Committee of the American Bankers Association, a national group of economists that meets with the Federal Reserve Board of Governors to discuss the economy and monetary policy.

Miller received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in economics from Florida State University.
