ANDERS SELECTED NATIONAL COACH OF THE YEAR
The nine-time national champion Lady Monarch field hockey team continues to collect honors long after its 2000 championship season. The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) recently announced that head coach Beth Anders was selected as Division I Dita/NFHCA National Coach of the Year.
The award is the second such honor in Anders' 19-year tenure at Old Dominion. She was named coach of the year at the end of the 1998 season, also a national championship year for the Lady Monarchs.
During her career at Old Dominion, Anders has amassed an impressive 390-55-7 record. That mark makes her the winningest coach in the history of women's collegiate field hockey. This season, she led her team to a 25-1 overall record, a 5-0 Colonial Athletic Association slate, a ninth CAA crown and a ninth NCAA trophy.
A five-time CAA Coach of the Year, Anders was part of the inaugural class inducted into the NFHCA Hall of Fame Jan. 13.
