STUDENT ART GRACES WEBB CENTER WALLS
Twenty-six art works by 11 members of the Student Art League are on display in the North Mall and center lobby of Webb University Center.
According to Sue MacDougall, director of Webb Center, this is the second time in her 10 years at the universty that Webb Center has hosted an art show, but unlike the first time five years ago, plans are to have an ongoing student art exhibition that will change two or three times a year.
At many colleges, "the student union building ususally has a gallery in it," MacDougall said. "This is just a perfect place to show student art."
The works are displayed on an upper walkway and viewers must look up to view them. MacDougall explained that this seemingly "odd" placement was agreed on after a discussion with Cathy Parker, president of the Student Art League. Some artists were worried about the safety of their pieces in such a public place. This placement allows the public to see what Old Dominion student artists are accomplishing, while ensuring the safety of the pieces, MacDougall noted.
